Dr. Sonya is an Author, Philanthropist, University Professor and former Chief Academic Officer & College Dean who traded-in her velvet and golden robe just to help families get strategic about higher education.
As Owner & Managing Partner of Colorfully Educated LLC., a boutique Educational consulting firm in Atlanta she is on a mission to adjust the trajectory and legacy of minority families for generations to come. A highly sought-after academic with 13+ years of institutional experience from Harvard to Devry and Researcher with work in Urban Policy Studies, First Generation College Student Persistence and the School to Prison Pipeline phenomenon. She is known in the education world as the "Guru of Schooling", often called upon by such news outlets as 1380 News & Talk, Georgia Public Broadcast System and The Atlanta Journal & Constitution with guest analyst appearances on V103 Radio and TVOne. Sharing expertise and commentary on high school dropout rates, charter schools, redistricting, policy & politics and of course the matter of high-profile figures in college scandals.
Described as a committed, passionate and relevant educational leader she served as Immediate Past President of the Georgia Higher Education Alliance, Member of the Georgia Women in Higher Education and Institutional Lead for the National Association of Colleges & Universities. Currently an Adjunct Professor at Beulah Heights University & College Success Instructor with Morehouse College's Elite Bridge Program (SMASH). Where high school students are guided into STEM colleges and careers. Due to her extensive work in the community, a plethora of students have selected the most reputable secondary school options in the country and thousands are in proper curriculum tracks in alignment to their educational end goals. In addition to this, hundreds of families of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds have been blessed with access to the tools and resources necessary to financially prepare to attend college.
Complimenting many years of professional experience her educational credentials include: B.A. in Sociology-Fisk University, Master of Arts in Education-Tennessee State University, Doctorate in Educational Leadership-Clark Atlanta University and Post-Doc in Multicultural & Diversity Studies-University of Georgia. Dr. Sonya is a proud member of the Illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. where she has committed to lifelong scholarship and service. On top of all of her many accomplishments she is most proud of the title wife to Dr. Ogechukwu Okoli a Decatur area Physical Therapist and mother of three beautiful children Adaora Kathryn (8), Amara Rose (5) and Arinzechukwu William (8months).
